Gimme fun, Jo’Anna! My weekend getaway to Johannesburg
It is maybe the prettiness of Cape Town standing in the way of offering more adult clubs, because who wants to party if you can climb a mountain or surf in the ocean? Luckily we have got Johannesburg that offers more choice when it comes to this open minded lifestyle and I was happy to visit one of the naughty places again.
Melville
I started my short journey in Melville, a quaint and green suburb in Johannesburg North. I couldn’t help but visit the vibey 7th Street, that got this party girl’s blood pumping faster. Although it was still rather quiet this beginning of January, there was definitely an attraction to this street.
From a delicious vegan burger at Duke’s to some loud pumping music at Six Cocktail bar, I for sure felt at home!
My guesthouse was located just a short Uber drive away from 44Stanley, a cute little Urban getaway where you will find boutique shops, an art gallery and restaurants. I got stuck in the chocolate corner though, my happy place, and chilled there for a bit

Soweto
To balance out my intended nights of partying, I decided to dive in some culturally and historically interesting spots. My tour guide Cecilia was so kind (and very patient with my many questions) to take me to Johannesburg South, where I visited Soweto.
Vilakazi Street was not to be missed with former Nelson Mandela’s residence and the Hector Pieterson memorial. The impressive Chris Hani Baragwanath hospital was an eye opener for me; the third largest hospital in the world!
The deterioration of this area (but also the inner city) leaves me a bit unfulfilled though. To be honest; the pandemic took its toll on many living here. I sometimes wish I had a louder voice (or more explicit nudes ), that would reach the Northern hemisphere to tell them: South Africa is travel ready, we need your support!

Tucked away on what almost feels like a farm in Muldersdrift, you will find your naughty escape: Club Amsterdam, a proper sex club. I was excited from the beginning to visit the club as you know my drive for exhilarating experiences can somewhat prevail.
Upon arrival a gentleman was appointed to show me every room and bed of the club. We started at reception and the welcoming lounge, which were, to be exact, the only areas where play was not allowed. This left me with a lot of options to indeed play in; the smoking area, the dancing room, the outside terrace, the voyeur room and most importantly the oversized jacuzzi.
The BDSM room just opposite the huge outdoor pool was flirting with me, but it stayed empty for the whole night, not being able to attract any of the visitors to its medieval tools.
Club Amsterdam has a great vibe, the people I have met were lovely and naughty enough to get it going. This club will see me again!

I kept the best for last and was spoiled by this fairly new hotel in Houghton Estate. You can feel the grandeur of this stunning place when you walk in to the hotel reception area; a space Orlando stadium almost seems small compared to.
The room with automatic closing curtains, two type of shower heads and an inviting bathtub was very convenient. This resort also offers two pools, a spa, a gym and a lovely restaurant with a – to be honest, fairly overaged – piano player.
My overseas friends, my local friends, this place is worth visiting, like worth visiting!! And I am happy to take you there.

I still feel overwhelmed by the huge size of Johannesburg and the surrounding burbs and this blog is only a short review of the places I visited. But one thing is for sure; Jozi leaves me hungry for more.
